Guarantees that count

All reputable manufacturers provide their products with guarantees against manufacturing defects and this represents a solid agreement between the manufacturer and their customer - typically a plumbers merchant. This agreement and close working relationship has been the way that guarantees and warranties have been handled for years.

With large construction projects the main contractors are under pressure to take on total responsibility for all aspects of a buildings guarantee and this old way of working based on manufacturers standard warranties is under strain. In general large projects have multiple levels of subcontracting involved; main contractors subbing out to multiple secondary contractors and these secondary contractors putting work out to a third and forth level of contractors means the gap between the people doing the installation, commissioning and water treatment work has never been greater.

The growing gap between the main contractor and the multiple subcontractors means that the challenges of establishing responsibility and accountability when something goes wrong is often time consuming and very costly.
